Benjamin Werner is an Australian artist with his studio based in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. He has also worked as collections and exhibitions technician at QUT Art Museum and William Robinson Gallery at Old Government House 2008 – 2014 as well as freelancing for many other museums, galleries and arts related businesses such as the QAGOMA and Museum of Brisbane in City Hall. He also works as an art technician at various art fairs and will be working again at this year’s ART BASEL Hong Kong for the 5th year in a row.

Benjamin teaches and tutors classes and workshops in Museum Art Handling, Observational Drawing, Drawing from photo (charcoal, pen, ink and pencil) and all painting styles including mural painting which he has worked with Queensland Rail on many of their station artworks. Recently leading teams to complete large scale wall drawings and murals for QAG and GOMA for the Marvel exhibition and the new Australian Galleries re-hang.

Since completing his honors degree in 2004 in fine art at Queensland College of Art Benjamin has held annual solo exhibitions of new bodies of work and exhibited in many group shows and art prizes. His work is held in numerous private and public collections such as City of Brisbane collection, Queensland State Library and the Maters Mothers Hospital.

Benjamin’s practice revolves around the search for the sublime in optics and colour, borrowing from both additive and subtractive colour theories. His current practice involves Oil painting, LED artworks, installations, mural/large scale wall works and ceramics; all centered on his light based studies taken form many cities around the world.

2018 sees another big year of commissions, group shows a Singapore artists residency and two solo exhibitions featuring new bodies of work; the first at Onespace Gallery in Brisbane in June and a major exhibition at the Australian High commission in Singapore in October and November.
